Here at the National Innovation Centre for Data, we believe that collaboration is integral to innovation. After all, it’s why we built this Centre - we work with businesses to transfer data science and AI skills to the UK workforce so that they can go on to discover creative new solutions to their business problems.
Our inaugural conference in 2023, The Data Innovation Showcase, perfectly encapsulated the power of collaboration, with 192 people from 79 different organisations gathering to network, connect with our sponsors at their exhibition stalls and learn more about data science and innovation from a wide range of speakers.
One session in particular, however, captured how branching out and working with others unlocks a whole new level of potential. This was ‘Data-Driven Success Stories’, which featured on both days of the conference and included talks from representatives of 8 different organisations who had previously collaborated with the National Innovation Centre for Data:
- Frazer Wagg, Head of Data Services at Connected Energy
- Adam Byfield, Principal Technical Assurance Specialist at NHS England
- Will Wood, Data Scientist at Naimuri
- Steven Ziolkowski, R&D and Consultant Engineer at Kinewell Energy
- Rojin Yarahmadi, Co-Founder & CEO at Polybox Solutions
- Andrew Ambrose-Thurman, Senior Engineer at Soil Machine Dynamics
- Greg Shaw, Data Analyst at Mitsubishi Chemical
- Marie Dale, Data Portfolio Leader at AkzoNobel
According to the Data Innovation Showcase feedback form, ‘Data-Driven Success Stories’ was a highlight for many of our attendees - 40% of those who responded voted it as their favourite session. They commented that they really enjoyed hearing how a diverse range of organisations have leveraged data to provide innovative business solutions. These sessions allowed our audience to identify how they could use data within their own roles.
We are incredibly passionate about enabling organisations to reach their goals through filling gaps in their data knowledge. It was great to see how our collaborative way of working resounded with so many people. Indeed, by coming along to our conference and engaging with us via our technical workshops, attendees were displaying the same openness to new perspectives that allowed these businesses to complete such fascinating projects. This was really promising to see!
At the Data Innovation Showcase, we caught up with some of our speakers and audience members to find out why they believe collaboration is so important and how this was demonstrated at the conference:
